Sanchez takes charge of Valenciennes

Ligue 1 outfit Valenciennes have appointed Daniel Sanchez as coach on a two-year deal.

Sanchez, a former Nice and Paris St Germain striker, has been brought in as the replacement for Philippe Montanier, who has taken charge of Spanish side Real Sociedad.

Sanchez, who most recently was in charge of Ligue 2 outfit Tours and has also had a spell as manager of Japanese side Grampus Eight, has vowed to bring attacking flair to VA as the club bid to build on their 12th-placed finish of last season.

''Valenciennes is the place to come in Ligue 1,'' said Sanchez, who was in the frame for the VA job two years ago, when Montanier got the nod to replace the successful Antoine Kombouare.

''It is a thriving club. We will stick to the spirit of the game and what has been done by my predecessors. By playing well, we will get more chances to win and I want to see attacking football.''
