Keisuke Honda has his eye on a move to Spain if he leaves CSKA Moscow this summer.
Honda has been strongly linked with Manchester City and Liverpool in recent weeks, but he sees his future in La Liga rather than the Premier League.
The Japan international did not rule out remaining at his Russian club as they will compete in the Champions League next season, so Liverpool's lack of European football is another reason why he is likely to snub a move to Anfield.
The 25-year-old told Sankei Sports: ''CSKA are in the Champions League so staying is not a bad option.
''But I do want to test myself at a higher level if the opportunity arises. My preference is still to play Spain."
Honda, one of the stars of last summer's World Cup, is expected to command a fee in the region of £12 million.
