Jean Fernandez has revealed he has held talks about taking over as Nancy coach.
Fernandez announced his resignation as Auxerre boss on Thursday after five years in charge. Nancy are looking for a replacement for Pablo Correa and Fernandez is in the frame.
"Nancy have a chance, that's true," he said in an interview with L'Equipe. "I met with president Jacques Rousselot in Paris - not in Nancy as I have read - and I realised he really wanted me to come. It is important to hear a president say this."
Fernandez added he expected to make his mind up over his future by Monday at the latest.
On his reasons for leaving Auxerre, he said: "If the club was in trouble, I would have stayed. This is not the case and I go with my head held high. Auxerre are a strong club."
