Van Persie hopeful of Marwijk stay

Robin van Persie hopes Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk will have a change of heart and guide Oranje to the 2014 World Cup.

RVP hits out at Spain and Chelsea

Van Marwijk's current deal with the Dutch Football Federation expires next summer, after Euro 2012, and the former Borussia Dortmund and Feyenoord boss has hinted he would like to return to club management.

However, Van Persie is eager for the 59-year-old to stay for at least two more years and help take Netherlands to the World Cup finals in Rio de Janeiro.

The Arsenal striker told Voetbal International: "The coach makes players better. Every time I have been with the national team, he challenges us as a group and me individually.

"He keeps everyone sharp and demands that we are on the top of our game. That's clever as not every coach knows the right chord to strike with their players. Van Marwijk manages that.

"He works as a coach, not a manager who sits back and occasionally says something. It works well and I hope that we can make progress with him after Euro 2012."

Van Persie is likely to lead the Netherlands attack in Saturday's friendly against Brazil.
