Jean Fernandez has resigned as Auxerre coach after five years at the helm of the Ligue 1 club.
Fernandez, 56, who guided the club to a ninth-place finish this season, was out of contract at the end of the campaign.
The former Marseille boss was voted France's top coach in 2010, after guiding Auxerre into the Champions League.
Fernandez told newspaper l'Yonne republicaine: "Yes, I made my decision on Wednesday night. I decided to leave and turn the page at AJA.
"This choice was difficult. I was reluctant, because I cannot erase five years of my life like that. Deciding whether to stay or go was a dilemma, but I chose to leave.''
Fernandez has been linked with a move to Ligue 1 rivals Nancy, Lyon and Sochaux, but does not know where he will end up next season.
"I have not decided,'' he said. "I will give myself two or three days of reflection.''
