Scholes expects bright United future

Paul Scholes has backed Manchester United to continue their trophy gathering exploits even though he will no longer be contributing to them.

Scholes confirms retirement
Carter: Who can replace Scholes?

Scholes, 36, confirmed his retirement on Tuesday in typically understated fashion. It came just 24 hours after he was part of a trophy parade to mark United's record 19th league title - and his tenth, a number that is bettered only by long-time team-mate Ryan Giggs.

Scholes is set to take up a coaching role when he returns from holiday, and he is confident of being around to witness plenty of silverware arriving at Old Trafford in the future.

"From the day I joined the club, his [Sir Alex Ferguson's] door has always been open," he said. "I know this team will go on to win many more trophies under his leadership.

"To have been part of the team that helped the club reach that 19th title is a great privilege."
