Gabric injured in car crash

Croatia midfielder Drago Gabric has reportedly suffered serious head injuries in a car crash near Split.

The accident is said to have happened on Monday afternoon in rainy conditions on the highway between Dugopolje and Biska.

Slobodna Dalmacija newspaper reports the 24-year-old remains in a ''deep coma, connected to respirators'' in the intensive care unit of a Split hospital after sustaining ''skull fractures and brain contusion, and damage to his facial bones and left eye and the eyeball''.

Gabric is currently at Turkish club Ankaragucu, on loan from Trabzonspor, and has won five caps for Croatia.

He is the son of the former Hajduk Split and Croatia goalkeeper Tonci Gabric.

Tonci told Sportske Novosti newspaper: ''It's horrible. What else can I say? We're not yet aware of what happened. We must find the strength to be patient and believe in the best possible outcome.''
