FA warns Pulis over Webb praise

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has joined Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti in receiving a warning from the Football Association for praising referee Howard Webb.

• Ancelotti warned by FA
• Fergie warned over Webb praise

Ferguson was the first to come under scrutiny for his complimentary analysis of Webb prior to Manchester United's Premier League game against Chelsea at Old Trafford this month.

Ancelotti was subsequently warned for his comments prior to the same fixture, with both managers reminded that the FA frowns upon any comments made about a match official, positive or negative, in the build-up to a match.

Now Pulis has also been contacted by the governing body and warned about his future conduct for comments he made about Webb prior to Stoke's semi-final victory over Bolton in April.

"Howard is a great ref in my book, and certainly as good as there is," Pulis said before Stoke's 5-0 win. "We are pleased to have him. What makes him special is that little bit of an aura he has about him. He deals with players very well and I think most people in the game respect him."

A statement from the FA on Wednesday read: "The FA has today warned Tony Pulis as to his future conduct The Stoke City manager's warning relates to his pre-match media comments prior to the FA Cup semi-final against Bolton Wanderers on 17 April."
