Lehmann hints at Arsenal stay

Veteran German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has revealed he could remain at Arsenal in a playing capacity beyond the end of the current season.

• Sagna expects of Fabregas stay

The former VfB Stuttgart player retired at the end of the 2009/10 Bundelsiga season but was persuaded to re-join the Gunners in March after they suffered an injury crisis.

Lehmann accepted Arsene Wenger's offer to return to the Emirates and, despite only playing once since signing a short-term contract, he told German newspaper Bild he could surprise everyone by continuing for a further year.

"It was not really a comeback, but more of a last resort - actually more of a hobby," the 41-year-old said. "I took three weeks to get really fit - and then I had to play against Blackpool. I thought 'You can do it still. It is not forgotten'.

"From my performance I would be able to continue playing. My teammates are always asking me if I'll still be here next season.''

But even if he decides to retire for a second time the former Schalke and Borussia Dortmund stopper is likely to remain in football as he continues working towards his coaching badges with England as a preferred destination once the course is completed.

"I can very well imagine a job in football. First, I'll probably end my trainer course,'' he said. "When you have such personalities as Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, this (England) is the ideal solution.''
