Wolves to stick with Mick

Wolves owner Steve Morgan has hinted that he will stick with manager Mick McCarthy even if the club are relegated from the Premier League.

• Blog: Wolves in pole position

Wolves play fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers at Molineux Stadium on Sunday, needing a victory to be certain of avoiding the drop into the Championship after two seasons in the top flight.

Former Liverpool shareholder Morgan, who took over the Midlands club in 2007, has backed his manager ahead of the vital relegation showdown.

Morgan said: "You never give the dreaded vote of confidence but Mick has been here for five years and I don't believe you get any progress at all by chopping and changing.

"Chopping and changing has happened in other clubs and what good has it done them? I know Mick has made progress every year since I've been here.

"There are times in life when things don't go right but you've got to get back up and stand together and make sure you get it right next time. The fans have seen that, they've got behind the club and everyone benefits from it.''

Morgan believes Wolves under McCarthy have progressed well since he replaced Glenn Hoddle as manager in July of 2006.

He said: "The team has made progress in all four years I've been here under Mick. The first year we missed the play-offs by one goal, the second year we were champions, the third year we established ourselves in the Premier League for the first time in the club's history.

"This year we are already two points ahead of last year despite being in a relegation fight still.''
