Zanetti: Inter should sign Alexis Sanchez

Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti believes highly-rated Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez would be an excellent addition to the Nerazzurri's squad this summer.

Inter secured a second-placed finish in Serie A on Sunday after drawing with Napoli but are looking to strengthen in the summer having missed out on the Scudetto to city rivals AC Milan, the first time the Nerazzurri have failed to lift the title in six years.

Last season's Champions League winners have been linked with a number of players in recent months, including Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez and in-demand Lille winger Eden Hazard.

But Zanetti, who is in a good position to judge whether a player will fit in at the San Siro having played more than 700 games for Inter over the past 16 years, feels Chile international Sanchez would be a good signing.

"Tevez, Hazard and Sanchez are all three excellent players," Zanetti said to Gazzetta dello Sport. "'Carlito' has always done very well. He has scored lots of goals at every club where he has played. The Belgian attacker is not as well known as the other two, but he has great statistics.

"Sanchez, however, has already shown that he has what it takes to be successful in Serie A. He has made a lot of progress. I know him very well as I have played against him several times. I am confident that he is ready to make the next step and can make the difference at a bigger club."

Sanchez, 22, has also reportedly been the subject of interest from Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United after following up an impressive World Cup with some eye-catching displays for Udinese this season to help the club to the brink of Champions League qualification.

However, Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo insists his star players will not be sold if Champions League qualification is secured.

"Should we qualify for the Champions League then it is our desire to maintain the potential that we already have," Pozzo said. "In fact, we want to add to it.

"We've had an experience in the Champions League before and we now understand that you need to improve the squad with important players. We'll do all that we can to take on this adventure.''

Udinese are currently fourth in Serie A and need a point at newly-crowned champions AC Milan on Sunday to qualify for next season's Champions League ahead of Lazio.
