Deschamps retains faint title hope

Didier Deschamps still refuses to give up on Marseille's Ligue 1 title challenge, but acknowledges holding on to second place is becoming an equally pressing concern.

OM's hopes of denying Lille the double faded after yesterday's disappointing 2-2 draw at Lorient left them three points behind the Coupe de France winners, who have three games remaining to Marseille's two.

''While there is life, there is hope,'' insisted Deschamps - though he added: ''That hope is slim, it is becoming tiny as we approach the end. I don't think the title has been thrown away, but it is moving further away.''

Andre-Pierre Gignac scored Marseille's late equaliser at the Stade Yves Allainmat after Lorient's Lamine Kone and Kevin Gameiro had overhauled Loic Remy's opener.

Deschamps added: ''We played a very good first half. Few teams have been capable this season of putting Lorient under pressure at home. We opened the scoring and could have taken further advantage of the chances we had.

''It's a point more but I will not console myself with that. Our aim was clear - to come here and win.

''We have two matches left to play and one objective to achieve - qualifying for the Champions League. Two places will give us that - first and second.

''We have to set aside this disappointment and focus on our home game against Valenciennes. I am not particularly looking behind us, but a win would assure us of second place.''
