Daum unsure of Frankfurt future

Christoph Daum does not know if he will remain in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt next season following their relegation to the second division.

A 3-1 defeat at Borussia Dortmund condemned the club to the drop after the worst second half of a season in the club's history followed one of their best first halves.

Just one win since Christmas was simply not good enough to keep the club up and Daum, who took charge of the last seven games without any success, is now unsure about his own future at the club.

"I cannot say now whether I will be going into the second division, but I also cannot say that I won't be,'' he said "I cannot make such a decision today. We will sit down in the coming days and take a decision for Eintracht.

"I am really disappointed not have been able to help Eintracht more than I did. I think I tried everything.''

Frankfurt will now be looking to emulate Hertha Berlin, who made an instant return to the top flight by winning the second division this season after relegation 12 months ago, and Daum is convinced that they will return, with or without him.

"Eintracht have the potential and this just need activating now,'' he said. "The foundations have been laid so that the club remains financially securely structured. All I can say is that Frankfurt belong in the Bundesliga and I hope that this is the case again as soon as possible.''
