West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green has not suggested he wants to join Ben Foster and quit England but he has instead asked Fabio Capello to be excused England duty this summer because of the imminent birth of his baby.
ESPNsoccernet has been informed that Green has not abandoned his country but just wants to take a short break to be with his family.
A source close to the player said: "Robert is a true gentleman as always, and while he would not let his country down, he has asked the FA to consider not selecting him this summer if he is not needed, as he wants to be there for the birth of his baby.
"As for quitting England, he has not mentioned that nor thought about it as far as I know. He has certainly not suggested this to the FA."
Capello may have to turn to veteran David James for experienced cover for current first choice Joe Hart as Foster's decision to quit international football this week has left them short of goalkeepers.
