Gabbidon fined over Twitter rant

West Ham defender Danny Gabbidon has been fined £6,000 and warned about his future conduct following comments posted on his Twitter account.

Gabbidon, 31, was handed an 'improper conduct' charge in April by the Football Association for a foul-mouthed message in the wake of his side's 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

The defender, who has since closed down his account, wrote: ''U know what, f*** the lot of you, u will never get another tweet from me again, you just don't get it do you. Bye bye.''

The FA confirmed they have fined Gabbidon for his comments in a statement on Tuesday.

''At an Independent Regulatory Commission, West Ham United defender Danny Gabbidon was fined and warned as to his future conduct,'' the statement said.

''Gabbidon was charged with improper conduct in relation to media comments made on the social media site Twitter on 16 April 2011. Having admitted the charge, Gabbidon was fined £6,000.''

It is unclear what provoked Gabbidon's tweet although it is believed to have come in response to criticism from fans.

The Welshman first learned the dangers of tweeting in December when a mispunctuated post-match apology read more like a condemnation of West Ham fans.

Following the Hammers' 3-1 loss to Bolton, he tweeted: "Sorry you had to witness that last night West Ham fans need to start showing the dedication that you have & things might start to improve!x''

Gabbidon received a negative response after failing to put a comma after the word 'fans' and later apologised, before vowing to leave the social networking website, saying: "Im done with tweeting its more trouble than its worth!''

He ater rejoined Twitter but has once again stopped posting after his latest mishap.
