Dalglish: We've shown our quality

Kenny Dalglish believes Liverpool have proved in recent weeks that they were never a two-man team that relied on Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard.

• Have Liverpool had a successful season?

Torres left the club in January, joining Chelsea in a £50 million deal, while Gerrard has struggled with injury problems at times this season. Nevertheless, the Reds have enjoyed a distinct upturn in fortunes since Dalglish took the reins as manager - and the Scot believes the players deserve great credit for improving the team spirit and showing they have never relied on one or two key players.

"The more options you have, the better it is for everyone. I don't know what it was before," Dalglish said. "In any team you are going to have players who shine more than others.

"Successful teams are the ones with the greatest number of options going forward. It is great credit to them and the confidence and belief they have in themselves. They have built that up themselves with their results.

"Where you get your ammunition from doesn't really matter, but the more choices you have, the stronger you are going to be.

"Results give you belief. If you can't believe in each other on the pitch then you are going to have a problem.

"Everyone feeds off the success of the team. Different people get a lift in different ways, and not everyone can score a goal."

Dalglish also praised those players who have struggled to get into his first team for recent matches - saying their positive attitude in training has still played a major role in the club's current rise to sixth in the Premier League table.

"The most important thing is the players who aren't playing and how they react. It's easy to enjoy training when you are playing every week and getting results," he added.

"The hard part is for those not playing as often as they would be at other clubs. When they come in with a positive attitude it lifts the whole place."

Liverpool face Fulham at Anfield on Monday evening, hoping to move above Tottenham into fifth with a draw or win.
