Leonardo: Milan deserved to win title

Inter Milan coach Leonardo has admitted his former club AC Milan were deserving Serie A champions after they picked up the point they needed against Roma on Saturday to secure their first Scudetto since 2004.

• Pirlo poised to leave champions
• Inter blog: Coutinho's first goal

Leonardo left the Rossoneri helm last summer after a 13-year association with the club and took over from Rafael Benitez at Inter in December. But the Brazilian boss has no complaints as Milan ended Inter's dominance after five successive titles.

''I try to follow my own path,'' he told Inter's official website. ''My only regret is that we didn't win it, as we almost overtook them. However, AC Milan did deserve it. They are a good team and I have no problem whatsoever looking back at my past.

''If I sent a message to [Milan vice-president Adriano] Galliani? That's between us. What's private stays private.''

However, Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso does not believe arch-rivals AC Milan will stay at the top of Italian football for long.

"We must not make dramas for Milan's title win," Cambiasso told Sky Sport Italia. "We knew after so many wins on the bounce [five] that it would happen.

"Of course, we regret the Scudetto and it's not nice losing it. But, we are already working to win it back.''

"We have already won two titles this term [the Italian Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup],'' he added. ''We have got a Champions League place [for next season], and now we have to think about the Coppa Italia."
