QPR escape FA points deduction

The FA has confirmed QPR will be promoted to the Premier League as champions despite having been found guilty of two charges related to the signing of Alejandro Faurlin in 2009.

FA postpones QPR hearing
Johnson: Ruling could leave QPR in limbo

QPR have finished top of the Championship but they faced the threat of a sizeable points deduction as they faced an FA inquiry into the deal to bring Argentinean midfielder Faurlin to the club.

The club faced seven charges over the player's registration but, although the FA has found evidence to support two of those charges, QPR have been informed that they will be playing top-flight football next season.

The club have, however, been fined £875,000 and warned as to future conduct plus ordered to pay 50% of costs.

An FA statement read: "The Regulatory Commission hearing charges brought by The FA against Queens Park Rangers FC wish to announce that although two of the charges have been found to be proved there will be no points deduction made from Queens Park Rangers FC in this season or the next.

"The club were found to have been in breach of FA Rule E3, and to have also been in breach of FA Football Agents Regulations, A1.

"The commission found that in respect of the breach of FA Rule E3 the club be fined £800,000. In respect of the breach of FA Football Agents Regulations, A1, the club be fined a further £75,000."

The statement added: "In addition the club was warned as to its future conduct with particular regard as to regulatory compliance.

"The (independent regulatory) commission also ordered the club to pay a contribution of 50% of the costs of the regulatory commission. A further five charges against the club and one charge against (chairman) Mr Gianni Paladini were found not proven."

The decision comes just hours before QPR host Leeds in the final game of the season. The FA had already announced that the trophy would be present at Loftus Road unless a points deduction was announced before the game.

The FA's four-man independent regulatory commission began hearing evidence on Tuesday and a decision had originally been expected on Friday.

A statement on the club's official website read: "QPR are delighted to finally be able to confirm that they have gained automatic promotion to the English Premier League - as CHAMPIONS!

"We will review the findings of the independent panel and make a further statement shortly. We would, however, wish to thank all our supports for their commitment to the club throughout this season and especially over the past few weeks, which have been difficult for all associated with the club."

Manager Neil Warnock added on Football Focus: "How they [the players] have managed to focus with all the rubbish some of the tabloids report, people speaking out when they shouldn't have done, didn't know their facts - they coped well.

"We haven't said anything. We just kept our counsel and did it on the pitch. I can't praise them high enough although it's not really sunk in at the moment, it's just a great feeling."

He added: "It's just a relief to know we are the champions. We have been the champions, but when you can't answer back it's horrible."
