Gold accepts England stars will go

West Ham United co-owner David Gold will not stand in the way of the club's England internationals if they are relegated from the Premier League.

• Preview: West Ham v Blackburn
• New Parker blow
• Sullivan defends no-show

West Ham are rooted to the foot of the table, three points adrift of safety with only three games remaining. But with fixtures remaining against Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic and injury-ravaged Sunderland to come survival is still within their grasp.

Relegation would see stars such as Scott Parker, Carlton Cole, Matthew Upson and Robert Green look for a route to remain in the top flight.

"It's unfair to tell a player to forego your potential England career to come down and play in the Championship," Gold conceded in an interview with the BBC's Football Focus.

"It impacts on his career. Would I try [to stop them]? Of course, I would try but you would have a one in 10 chance.

"Do I blame myself [for the league position]? There is no doubt you end up blaming yourself. You go over the decisions you have made and yes, you have to take the blame. At the time you think you have done the best job. When the window closed I thought we had done enough."

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is a long-term admirer of Parker, though there might not be so many willing takers for the club's other England internationals.
