Arsenal need Cup win to save season

By ESPN Staff

St Pauli vow to keep fighting

The focus shifts to the battle to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga this weekend after Borussia Dortmund wrapped up their seventh league title last Saturday.

St Pauli are at the greatest risk of going down and could be condemned to second division football next season even if they manage to beat Bayern Munich on what is set to be an emotional day at the Millerntor Stadion.

The game will be coach Holger Stanislawski's last in charge as he brings an end to his 18-year affinity with the club and bids farewell to the fans ahead of his move to Hoffenheim next season.

"Of course you have a few thoughts about how everything will go and it is certainly going to be an emotional moment," Stanislawski said. "It will be something special and I just want to enjoy it.

"We are five points adrift of the relegation play-off and we need the three points, but as long as we still have a chance of avoiding relegation we will try all we can to take it. We are not just going to let the season fizzle out."

Nevertheless, if Eintracht Frankfurt win their crucial relegation battle with Cologne, even a win would not be enough to keep St Pauli up.

Borussia Monchengladbach have moved off the foot of the table with two wins in a row and will be looking for a third straight win against Freiburg on Saturday to keep their hopes alive of avoiding relegation.

And 2009 champions Wolfsburg must beat Kaiserslautern if they want to be certain of finishing the penultimate weekend of the season above the bottom three.

However, Stuttgart and Werder Bremen are not yet safe either. They both need one more win to be guaranteed of safety and will hope to get that result this weekend against Hannover and Dortmund respectively.

Elsewhere, Mainz can secure fifth spot and a place in the Europa League next season with a win at Schalke, although Nurnberg know victory over Hoffenheim could still see them catch their rivals if they slip up.

Finally, second-placed Bayer Leverkusen will bid their coach Jupp Heynckes farewell from the BayArena at the end of their game against Hamburg. Heynckes will take charge of Bayern Munich next season.
