Kayal ruled out of run-in

Celtic have suffered a further blow to their title aspirations after midfielder Beram Kayal was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Kayal suffered a fractured wrist in Wednesday night's 3-2 loss at Inverness as Celtic relinquished the initiative in the title race to Old Firm rivals Rangers.

He will miss the final three matches of the SPL campaign - against Kilmarnock, Hearts and Motherwell - and the Scottish Cup final with Motherwell on May 21, with Celtic confirming the 23-year-old requires surgery.

A statement on Celtic's official website read: "Beram Kayal will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a fracture to his right wrist against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Wednesday evening.

"The midfielder had to be stretchered off deep into the second half of the 3-2 defeat in the Highlands after colliding with Caley defender Ross Tokely. He now requires surgery and faces a possible two to three months of rehabilitation.

"It is a setback for the Hoops as Kayal will not be available for the final three league fixtures or the Scottish Cup final at the end of the month."

Lennon has been full of praise for Kayal's impact this season after signing him from Maccabi Haifa last July. After Sunday's 4-1 win over Dundee United, Lennon described the midfielder as "world class".

Kayal has made 34 appearances this term but now must watch from the sidelines as Celtic seek to overhaul a one-point deficit at the top of the table, with the league season coming to a conclusion on May 15.
