Borussia Dortmund were crowned Bundesliga champions thanks to a 2-0 win over Nurnberg which gave them an unassailable lead at the top of the table with two games of the season to go.
Goals from Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez sealed the win within the first 19 minutes with Holger Badstuber's own goal giving Schalke only a glimpse of hope in a game dominated by the Bavarians.
Muller's second late on completed the scoring as Bayern took full advantage of Hannover's shock 1-0 defeat at home to Borussia Monchengladbach to move back into a Champions League qualification berth. Elkin Soto scored two goals as Mainz saw off 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt, winning 3-1 to maintain their hold on the final Europa League spot. Andreas Ivanschitz gave fifth-placed Mainz the lead after 26 minutes before Soto made it 2-0 in the 38th minute. Frankfurt went a man down after 43 minutes with Sebastian Rode's red card and Soto increased the lead to 3-0 just before the break. The home side maintained control in the second half to wrap up only a second victory in the last seven games to move on to 52 points - five points ahead of Nurnberg. However, Frankfurt's plight remains alarming. With just one victory in 15 games, they failed to move out of the relegation places. Borussia Monchengladbach kept their Bundesliga survival hopes alive by defeating Hannover, whose hopes of Champions League qualification took a knock. Marco Reus scored the only goal in the 1-0 victory in the 76th minute to give Gladbach their first win in Hannover in 22 years. Stuttgart scored twice within five minutes to reverse an early deficit and win 2-1 at Hoffenheim to take another step away from the relegation zone. Peniel Mlapa gave Hoffenheim the lead after 14 minutes before Cacau equalised on 63 minutes and Zdravko Kuzmanovic hit Stuttgart's winner from the penalty spot. Papiss Demba Cisse scored twice as Freiburg beat Hamburg 2-0 in a showdown of teams with little to play for in the final stretch. Cisse struck in the 16th and 88th minutes to take his tally to 22 for the season, one behind current top scorer Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich.
