Gers duo savour Well thrashing

Rangers duo Steven Davis and Steven Naismith were delighted with their side's 5-0 thrashing of Motherwell on Saturday.

Steven Naismith: The pressure's on Celtic

Kyle Lafferty, Nikica Jelavic and Davis all grabbed a goal apiece, while Naismith claimed a brace as the Scottish champions stretched their lead at the summit to four points.

The onus is now on Celtic to respond against Dundee United on Sunday and make the most of their game in hand at Inverness in midweek.

Davis told ESPN: "It was important, a big game for us with Celtic playing tomorrow, but we just concentrated on ourselves.

"In the first half there was not a lot in it but in the second half we pulled away.''

Asked about the potential importance of goal difference, Davis added: "I don't think you can think about it, you have to win first and foremost and if you can get a few goals it's a bonus, but we'll take one game at a time.''

Naismith added: "We put a good show on today. I should have had a hat-trick but we had a good performance and a few goals which helps in the title cause.

"It's over to them (Celtic) but it's going to be like that from now until the end of the season. Every team in the top six can beat the Old Firm so they are all going to be tough games.''

Rangers manager Walter Smith also insisted the focus was on victories, rather than goal difference.

"Winning games is on our mind more than anything else,'' he said on ESPN. "If the goal difference comes into being it comes into being.

"We need to keep winning. In recent weeks we've had spells in games where we've played exceptionally well.

"Today in the first half we didn't play well, we played too long back to front, but in the second half we were a bit better and got a few openings and played far better than the first half.''

Motherwell boss Stuart McCall felt a few decisions went against his side, but added: "We can talk as much as we want, once the second goal went in we caved in a little.''
