Villas-Boas dismisses Liverpool link

Porto coach Andre Villas-Boas has rubbished reports that he could take over as Liverpool manager this summer.

• Brassell: Business as usual
• Rewind to 2003: Mourinho makes mark

Villas-Boas, 33, has emerged as one of the best young manager's in Europe after guiding Porto to the Portuguese Liga title this season.

His side are unbeaten in the league and are currently 19 points clear of second-placed Benfica, while they are also in the final of the Portuguese Cup and semi-finals of the Europa League.

Villas-Boas, who assisted Jose Mourinho at Porto, Chelsea and Inter, now stands on the brink of emulating the 'Special One' by winning a Treble in his first full season as Porto boss.

His achievements have not gone unnoticed and Liverpool have been just one of a number of European clubs reportedly interested in his services.

Current Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has masterminded an impressive resurgence since he returned to the Anfield hotseat after a 20-year absence in January but despite his notable impact, the Scot has yet to be appointed manager on a permanent basis and the club's hierarchy are believed to be keeping their options open.

However, Villas-Boas, who has also been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Roma and Juventus, insists any talk of him leaving Portugal is "absurd".

"There are incredible stories," Boas said in The Sun. "Supposedly I said no to Roma because I was going to Liverpool. It's absurd.

"The speculation is natural, given what this team has been doing. But it is still false information."
