Walters hits out at Wolves fans

Stoke striker Jon Walters claimed Wolves fans helped his side to victory at the Britannia Stadium on Tuesday night.

• Pulis bemoans blow

He accused them of taunting Matthew Etherington as he was carried off with a hamstring injury that could see the winger miss the FA Cup final. Walters was furious at hearing the chants, telling the stricken player he was not going to Wembley, and said it motivated the team.

The Potters eventually recorded a 3-0 victory at the Britannia Stadium thanks to goals from Kenwyne Jones, Ryan Shawcross and Jermaine Pennant.

Walters said: "That was very poor from them (the supporters) and it wound us up at half-time. Matthew has had a very good season and we came out in the second half thinking we would do it for him. Good luck to him - we are just hoping he will be okay.''

Stoke are almost certain of securing their Premier League status for a fourth successive season ahead of the final against Manchester City after moving to 42 points. Walters is not relaxing just yet, though, with a trip to struggling Blackpool to come on Saturday.

He said: "We were always moving to that safety point. Mathematically, we haven't done it yet, but there is a nice little gap now. All we are doing is looking forward to the game at Blackpool on Saturday now. We want to push on from this.''
