Ajax up to second as PSV slip up

Ajax claimed a convincing 4-1 win over lowly Excelsior to move within a point of FC Twente at the top of the Eredivisie.

Saturday round-up

Two goals from Lorenzo Ebecilio plus further strikes from Christian Eriksen and Siem de Jong saw the Amsterdam club home with room to spare and allowed them to take second spot in the table from PSV Eindhoven with two games remaining.

Daan Bovenberg scored Excelsior's goal but they sit third from bottom and are now firm favourites for the relegation play-offs, with six points to make up on De Graafschap above them.

PSV Eindhoven had earlier seen their title hopes take a huge knock with a 3-1 defeat at Feyenoord.

The visitors found themselves trailing to a Georginio Wijnaldum goal and things took another turn for the worse when Orlando Engelaar was sent off. Ola Toivonen pulled PSV level soon after, but further goals from Wijnaldum and Luc Castaignos gave Feyenoord the win.

PSV remain three points behind leaders FC Twente with two matches remaining.

FC Utrecht ended a run of four straight defeats with an impressive 4-2 victory over struggling Vitesse Arnhem to move up to eighth in the Eredivisie table, while FC Groningen beat NEC Nijmegen 3-1.
