Naismith wins club prize

Steven Naismith has been voted Rangers' player of the year by his team-mates and supporters.

Naismith, 24, secured the double prize at the club's annual awards dinner after netting 12 goals so far this season, mostly from midfield.

He told the club's official website: "I was surprised to be in the running for player of the year but to collect the award is something special.

"I'm a bit of a moaner on the pitch so to get the vote from the lads too is fantastic. I just hope we all go on to have more success this season and win the title."

Jamie Ness was the fans' choice for young player of the year and also won the goal of the season award for his Scottish Cup strike against Celtic.

The 20-year-old said: "It's unbelievable. I didn't expect any of this to be honest. There have been some great goals and great performances from young players so to come out on top is really great."

Steven Whittaker was also recognised with the John Greig Achievement award, chosen by the former manager and captain.

"I'm very proud," Whittaker said. "He said I put in some consistent performances, so that was very nice to hear.

"I feel very honoured that he has chosen me. You know all about it when you come to this club and what he has achieved and what he has done, so to receive an award from him means a lot."
