Muniain strike gives Bilbao victory

Iker Muniain struck a last-gasp winner as Athletic Bilbao fought back from a goal down to claim an unlikely 2-1 victory over local rivals Osasuna and climb back into the Europa League places.

Lowly Osasuna looked to have taken total control of the match in a seven-minute spell just after half-time when they went ahead through Kike Sola and Athletic lost defender Xavi Castillo to a red card.

However, the 10 men of Athletic drew level through star striker Fernando Llorente in the 69th minute and the visitors then received a further boost in the 88th minute when Osasuna also had a played sent off, Sergio Fernandez the man to see red.

Athletic then stole all three points in injury time when the 18-year-old Muniain curled a long-range strike into an unguarded net after Osasuna goalkeeper Ricardo Lopez had raced out of his area and collided with team-mate Nelson.

Dani Osvaldo scored twice as Espanyol twice came from behind to frustrate Atletico Madrid in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Cornella.

Koke gave Atletico the lead after just 78 seconds following some dreadful defending by the hosts, but Osvaldo levelled with a deflected strike later on in the half. Sergio Aguero then made it 2-1 early into the second half with a neat finish, but Osvaldo equalised for a second time with a fine header nine minutes later.

Antoine Griezmann was Real Sociedad's two-goal hero as the Basque side ended their miserable run of form with a potentially crucial 2-1 victory over Sporting Gijon.

Sociedad, last season's Segunda Division champions, looked in serious danger of an immediate return to the second tier after picking up just up one point from their past seven games, but Griezmann ensured his side can breath a little easier.

The highly-rated winger opened the scoring in the first half, and although in-form Sporting drew level through Miguel De Las Cuevas midway through the second period, Griezmann netted what would prove to be the winner 10 minutes from time with a twice-deflected strike.

Deportiva La Coruna continued to pull away from the Primera Division drop zone thanks to a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers Racing Santander.

Goals either side of half-time from Lassad and Xisco moved Depor above their opponents and five points clear of the bottom three with six games remaining. The result brought an end to Racing's three-match unbeaten run as they slipped two places behind Depor in the standings.

Levante extended their rich vein of recent form with a deserved 2-1 win at home to Hercules and now look all but safe with six rounds of matches left to play.

The Valencia-based side have now won eight of their last 12 games and drawn three, with their only defeat in that time coming away to Real Madrid.

Ruben Suarez gave Luis Garcia's side the lead early on and Juanlu made it two just before the conclusion of a completely one-sided first half. David Trezeguet bagged a late consolation for Hercules, but the visitors deserved nothing from the game and remain in the relegation zone.
