Magath furious as Wolfsburg are held

Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath criticised his players' prima donna attitude after a 2-2 draw at home to St Pauli left him without a win since taking charge a month ago.

The result also left the Wolves four points adrift of safety with four games of the Bundesliga season remaining, yet it could have been even worse.

A goal from Jan Polak in the 89th minute salvaged the Wolves a point at the VW-Arena and saved them from slipping into the bottom two, but Magath was still dismayed by his team's attitude.

"St Pauli were better than us and they played like a team,'' he said. "We have players who are too concerned with themselves and everybody is thinking about their own situation.

"You could see that Diego was insecure. We lacked team spirit and desire. Once again, we did not show what you need in a relegation battle, even though I intentionally chose players who actually like to run.''

St Pauli coach Holger Stanislawski, who announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season, was at least happy to see a seven-game losing streak come to an end.

"There are two possible reasons why my team played well - either they want to thank me for what I have done here or they are glad that I am leaving,'' he said. "We have the class and the quality that is required to stay up.''
