Inter seek Serie A response

Inter Milan will attempt to get over the disappointment of their Champions League exit and finish the season strongly in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

Inter fell 2-1 at Schalke on Wednesday night and lost the quarter-final 7-3 on aggregate, thus dashing the club's hopes of defending its European title.

"I had dreamed about a great comeback," Inter coach Leonardo said. "Of course we could have done better but we failed to do so.

"We didn't arrive at this quarter-final tie in the best condition. Now we must look ahead. I was, and I remain, enthusiastic. We must be clever now because we have to fight in Serie A and in the Coppa Italia and we have to bounce back.

"We still have a lot to do and we have important aims to accomplish. We are alive in both competitions."

Inter, who are third in Serie A and five points behind league leaders AC Milan, travel to the Ennio Tardini stadium to face Parma on Saturday.

AC Milan, meanwhile, will be without Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Saturday's match against strugglers Sampdoria. Ibrahimovic, who is the team's joint top scorer with 14 goals alongside Alexandre Pato, will start a three-match ban this weekend.

Second-placed Napoli are three points behind Milan and riding a four-match winning streak in Italy as they go into their home clash with European hopefuls Udinese. The Azzurri will be bolstered by the return of star striker Edinson Cavani from suspension this weekend.

Lazio, travel to Sicily to meet Catania on Sunday, leapfrogged Udinese into fourth place with last weekend's victory over Parma. That win put them one point clear of their rivals in the final Champions League qualifying place with six rounds to go.

Roma and Juventus each expect to maintain their push for a top-four finish when they take on Palermo and visit Fiorentina, respectively.

Vincenzo Montella's Roma trail four points behind city rivals Lazio and are two points above seventh-placed Juve.

Victory on Sunday against Bologna would see Chievo take a giant step towards securing their Serie A status. Stefano Pioli's side have collected 36 points in 32 games.

Relegation-threatened Lecce will look to make it three wins in a row when they welcome Cagliari to the Via del Mare stadium. The Giallorossi have beaten Udinese and Sampdoria in recent weeks.

Cesena and Bari will battle it out at the Dino Manuzzi stadium with both sides desperate to claim three points to avoid relegation. Cesena are 18th, one point behind Sampdoria, who hold the last position of safety. Bari, meanwhile, remain at the foot of the standings 11 points behind Samp.

Relegation-threatened Brescia will look to end their dismal away run when they travel to the Luigi Ferraris stadium to face Genoa on Sunday. The Rondinelle have not won away from home since September 19.
