Premier Showdown - Apr 9-11
Tommy Smyth returned to winning ways last weekend, meaning he has restored his buffer at the top of the Showdown table. Can Dale Johnson put a run together to stop Tommy winning his first-ever title? It's been a disappointing season for the Rest of the World team, who have won back-to-back titles in the dim and distant past. So, who will take on our experts this weekend? It's Mark Maupin from South Hedland in Western Australia. Mark says: "I'm 56 years old and have been a staunch Man Utd fan since I was a small child. I live in the North-West of Australia in a small mining town where the temperatures sometimes top 50 degrees celsius in the summertime. Despite this there are quite a few different sports played including Rugby League, Aussie Rules Football, Baseball and (as it is known downunder) Soccer. "There is quite a lot of interest in the Premier League down here but we don't get the games on TV unless you subscribe to pay TV which I think is a crying shame. It does seem though that a lot of sports are going that way."
Let's check out those predictions.
For each round of Premier League action we invite one reader to take on Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth and ESPNsoccernet journalist Dale Johnson in our predictions game.
Points are then awarded as follows:
• Three points for a correct result and scoreline
• One point for a correct result
After the weekend's scores are in and the Showdown result has been worked out, the winning pundit receives three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total is added to the Rest of the World tally. In the case of a draw, the points are shared.
Another amazing performance from Tommy as he gets eight results correct. He's unstoppable. Dale clawed back a little bit of pride by going for the Liverpool win.
Table after Round 32
Rest of the World: 16.5
Best week's total of season so far: 13, Tommy Smyth (from eight fixtures).
