Wilshere hopeful of title

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is refusing to give up on the Premier League title - and firmly believes the Gunners will be in the hunt come May 22.

Wilshere dismisses City talk
• Trust won't sell shares

Wilshere, last week nominated as the PFA Young Player of the Year, claims that Manchester United's bid for glory in the Champions League and the FA Cup, as well as the Premier League, will affect them by the end of the season.

United currently lead the table by seven points, and Arsenal will effectively play their game in hand on Sunday when they entertain Liverpool at the Emirates. Victory in that match would cut the gap to four points and crank up the pressure.

Wilshere told the Daily Express: "Playing in Europe is going to catch up with them. We have got a week in between every game now to prepare ourselves, so it can only be good for us.

"We have got a game in hand and United have still got to come to the Emirates. If we win those games, we're within one point of them."

Wilshere was also pleased to be in the squad as 41-year-old goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, saying: "We can learn from him. He was in the Invincibles [2003-04] so he knows what it takes to win the title."
