Almeria sack coach Jose Luis Oltra

Jose Luis Oltra has been sacked as coach of Primera Division strugglers Almeria.

The Andalusian club slumped to the bottom of La Liga on Sunday when Hercules won 3-1 at Real Sociedad, and remained there - four points behind fourth-bottom Real Zaragoza - after going down 3-1 at home to Athletic Bilbao.

The club's sporting director, Alberto Benito, confirmed the club's decision after this morning's training session at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos.

A statement read: ''The Valencian coach is no longer manager of the Rojiblancos. Sporting director Alberto Benito communicated this to him at the beginning of the afternoon, once the morning training session was over.

''The club took this decision in the understanding that a change is needed in the team dynamic as there are still chances to achieve safety, which at the moment is four points away.

''Jose Luis Oltra, who UD Almeria thank for his work and professionalism, will bid farewell to the squad on Wednesday morning.''

Oltra took over the Almeria reins in November. He replaced Juan Manuel Lillo, who was sacked immediately after a humiliating 8-0 home defeat at the hands of Barcelona.

He led the team in 18 league games, picking up four wins with a total of 17 points. He also oversaw the side's run to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, where once again they lost to Barca.
