Nerlinger hits out at Hoeness critcism

Bayern Munich's 1-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach was overshadowed by supporters' protests against club president Uli Hoeness.

Hoeness has upset Bayern fans by offering a helping hand to city rivals 1860 Munich, who are on the brink of financial collapse, while his insistence on signing Manuel Neuer from Schalke this summer has also put him in their bad books.

The fact Saturday's win took Bayern up to third in the Bundesliga table and on course for a place in the Champions League next season seemed to go unnoticed.

"It is a disgrace for FC Bayern how a group of fans are behaving against a man who, in the last 30 years, has had nothing in his head and his heart other than FC Bayern,'' director of sport Christian Nerlinger told Bild.

"This criticism is unnecessary. After the previous protests against Manuel Neuer, we now have these protests. We should all concentrate on what is important and that is the Bayern team. It was a shocking experience for me today.''

Coach Louis van Gaal is certainly concentrating on the team ahead of his final six games on the bench.

"I am happy that we did not concede many chances,'' he said. "We did not create many, though, so we were very effective. Of course I am happy with the results because we have finally moved up to third."
