Friedel: No player mutiny at Villa

Aston Villa keeper Brad Friedel has warned his team-mates there is no place to hide in their relegation fight but has dismissed claims of a mutiny by players.

Villa are just a point off the bottom three after having won only six out their last 25 league games leading to reports of player unhappiness at manager Gerard Houllier's new rules, including banning mobile phones.

But Friedel, 39, said: "All the stories that have been going about are untrue, it's people just trying to stir things up.

"But we need to put all that to one side, starting on Saturday (at Everton). We have obviously had our ups and downs now but we need to be one.''

Friedel insisted it is up to the players to get Villa out of their predicament.

"In today's game players have to take a lot more responsibility," he said. "Once you cross the white line there is no-one there to hold your hands.

"It's up to us to get enough points to keep us in this division. There's no hiding place.''
