Premier Showdown - Mar 19-20
It's just win after win after win for Tommy Smyth at the moment as he stretches clear at the top of the table. At the moment it looks like there's no stopping him. Looking to pick up some pride for the Rest of the World team this weekend is Laurentiu Luca who is from Bucharest in Romania. Laurentiu tells us: "I'm a 31-year-old Romanian supporter of Aston Villa. I'm currently employed as a political analyst for an NGO, though my university background is in history. "Due to the self-imposed isolation of my country during the 1980s I started following the English leagues by reading books about their history. Hence, my support for such clubs as Aston Villa, Preston North End or Huddersfield, which always seem to surprise the occasional ex-pat while chatting around a pint. "One of the first English football games I watched was the 1996 League Cup final at the old Wembley between Aston Villa and Leeds United. Aston Villa won 3-1. Little was I to know that was the last trophy my team would win."
Let's check out those predictions.
For each round of Premier League action we invite one reader to take on Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth and ESPNsoccernet journalist Dale Johnson in our predictions game.
Points are then awarded as follows:
• Three points for a correct result and scoreline
• One point for a correct result
After the weekend's scores are in and the Showdown result has been worked out, the winning pundit receives three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total is added to the Rest of the World tally. In the case of a draw, the points are shared.
Dale gets the scoreline spot on at Stamford Bridge and storms to victory. Time for Tommy to start sweating again!
