England stars allowed time off

England have released five key players back to their clubs ahead of the upcoming friendly against Ghana.

Adams: Capello rediscovers Midas touch
Gerrard reveals Capello call

Fabio Capello has allowed John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Wayne Rooney and Michael Dawson to head back ahead of Tuesday's game at Wembley.

With Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham all still involved in the Champions League, Capello has told the quintet - all of whom started Saturday's 2-0 victory over Wales - that they will not be required for the fixture. In addition, Aston Villa full-back Kyle Walker has been ruled out by a groin injury.

Having given the armband back to Terry after stressing the need for a permanent captain, Capello must find a new candidate for England's first international with Ghana.

Gareth Barry, who was dropped from the team to face Wales, will be the favourite after wearing the armband for a spell during last month's friendly in Denmark.
