Clarke hails Suarez's 'unpredictability'

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez's unpredictability makes him a significant threat to Premier League defenders, according to first team coach Steve Clarke.

• Kuyt wants to stay with Reds
• Reds appoint new managing director
• Gerrard hopeful of early return
• Aquilani set for Juve stay - agent

The Uruguay international has already shown in the short time since arriving at Anfield from Ajax in January that he will become a key figure.

And the 24-year-old's goal on Sunday demonstrated how he possesses the element of surprise when he beat Sunderland's Simon Mignolet from the tightest of angles with the goalkeeper expecting the player to cross the ball.

Suarez was substituted in that game with what appeared to be a groin injury which may be related to a back problem and he has remained on Merseyside to receive treatment rather joining up with his international team-mates for matches against Estonia on Friday and the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.

Clarke has been impressed with what the £22.8 million signing has brought to the side.

"Unpredictability is one of his biggest assets,'' said the Scot, who only arrived at Anfield himself three weeks before Suarez moved from Ajax. "As a defender you don't know what he is going to do, so it is difficult.

"When he is in the penalty area he attacks defenders, he gets at them and forces them to make mistakes. Defender's cannot over commit inside the box or they run the risk of giving away a penalty.

"It's a big, big asset for him and I think for defenders it is very difficult to play against.''
