Mourinho flies over for award

Jose Mourinho was in London on Tuesday night to collect a special merit award at the Grosvenor House Hotel to help raise £500,000 for autistic children.

Mourinho was the latest in a long line of legendary football figures to claim an award at the 16th annual Football Extravaganza in aid of Nordoff Robbins.

Former Charlton and West Ham manager Alan Curbishley, who along with Sir Alex Ferguson is a patron of the football arm of a music industry awards night dinner, told ESPNsoccernet: "Jose has just walked past me in the foyer of the hotel.

"He has flown over specially to receive this award. My brother is in the music business and for the last 16 years we have run this footballing arm of it, starting with 300 people in a room at Enfield, to 1,100 tonight at the Grosvenor Hotel.

"Eric Cantona received the award last year, and others have included [Brian] Clough, John Charles, Tom Finney, [Kenny] Dalglish, Alan Shearer and Fergie.

"We shall be raising half a million for autistic children who only respond to music and, after Eric Cantona last year, we now have Jose Mourinho here, the 16th year we have been running this football event."
