Perth Glory are on the verge of securing the services of proven A-League goalscorer and New Zealand international Shane Smeltz.
A Glory spokesperson confirmed the club was "close to finalising a deal with Shane Smeltz", although he denied the deal had already been struck as some reports have suggested.
Smeltz's arrival would be a major boost for the Glory, who finished second last in the 2010-2011 season despite boasting one of the highest-paid squads in the league.
Former Adelaide captain Travis Dodd, ex-Victory defender Evan Berger and classy goalkeeper Danny Vukovic have also signed on at the Glory for next season, but the future of former England international Robbie Fowler remains up in the air.
Smeltz endured an interrupted season, ending his time with Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng after just five days before spending a frustrating stint with Turkish side Genclerbirligi.
But his return to Gold Coast saw him return to his prolific ways, helping the A-League side reach the semi-finals as he formed a formidable strike partnership with Bruce Djite.
