Schurrle named in Germany squad

Mainz forward Andre Schurrle has been recalled to the Germany squad for their European Championship qualifier against Kazakhstan on March 26.

Schurrle, 20, will become a Bayer Leverkusen player next summer and has impressed coach Joachim Low enough since gaining his first cap last November to be given a second call-up to his squad.

He is also set to feature in Germany's friendly with Australia on March 29.

"Since Andre has been playing consistently well this season and has impressed a lot in recent games, he is joining us again,'' explained Low. "He has been given the nod ahead of Marko Marin and Kevin Grosskreutz, who still play a part in our thoughts. We now have many alternatives for many positions.''

Bayern Munich pair Mario Gomez and Toni Kroos are both back after missing the friendly match against Italy last month due to injury while Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese also returns to the 23-man squad.

Germany will face Kazakhstan in Kaiserslautern next Saturday before hosting the Socceroos the following Tuesday in Monchengladbach.

"We want to get another win in the European Championship qualifying against Kazakhstan to consolidate our lead at the top of the table and our excellent position,'' said Low, who will then experiment a little with his side against Australia.

"The clash with Australia, who played well in the Asian Cup at the start of the year and only lost in the final to Japan, is an attractive match. I would like to use this game to test one or two young players and give those players who have been playing a lot recently a rest.''
