Galaxy silence Sounders in opener
Juninho's second-half strike ensured the Los Angeles Galaxy opened the 2011 Major League Soccer season in style with a 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders on Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder channeled his more famous namesakes as he fired a long-range effort past Kasey Keller 13 minutes after the interval to settle matters in the visitors' favour at a noisy but rainy Qwest Field.
Seattle had chances to equalise but could not get back on level terms and slipped to defeat in front of 36,433 fans - their biggest crowd for a home MLS game.
Seattle had a disruptive preparation for the first match of the new season as it was announced Swiss World Cup striker Blaise N'Kufo would leave the club just hours before kick-off.
