Newcastle deny sale talks

Newcastle United have denied suggestions that the club have been in talks with an Indian consortium about a potential sale.

• Blog: Newcastle takeover nonsense

Reports at the weekend claimed the club hierarchy had held talks with an unnamed party about a proposed takeover of the Magpies.

Owner Mike Ashley put the St James' Park outfit on the market in 2008, a move he has since reversed. Nevertheless, rumours have continued to suggest the unpopular Ashley could still sell the club after their return to the Premier League.

However, managing director Derek Llambias has denied any approach about a potential takeover has been made - or would even be considered.

"No-one has visited the club," Llambias told the Daily Express. "There has been no approach from any Indian consortium or businessman and Newcastle United are not looking for one."
