Ban rules Zlatan out of derby

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the club's important derby fixture with Inter Milan after receiving a three-match ban for punching an opponent, although the club will appeal the sanction.

Ibrahimovic was shown a straight red card for striking Bari's Marco Rossi in the stomach in the second half of Sunday's 1-1 draw with Serie A's bottom club.

The suspension, announced on Monday evening, means the Swedish striker will miss games against Palermo, Fiorentina and, on April 3, Inter, although Milan intend to fight the ban.

A club statement read: "AC Milan will appeal against the disciplinary action imposed on Zlatan Ibrahimovic."

The game against Ibrahimovic's former club is crucial to the title race, with the Nerazzurri currently five points behind the league leaders.

It has also been confirmed that Lazio defender Stefan Radu has been banned for three games for headbutting Roma's Fabio Simplicio in Sunday's Derby della Capitale.

The 2-0 win for Roma also resulted in a €35,000 fine for the Giallrossi after Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Muslera was targeted by a laser beam from the crowd, while Lazio were fined €6,000 after fireworks were thrown by their supporters.
