Boothroyd leaves Coventry

Coventry have sacked manager Aidy Boothroyd after less than ten months in charge at the Ricoh Arena.

Despite a promising start to the season, the Sky Blues have won just one of their last 16 games in the Championship to slip to 19th, seven points above the drop zone.

Saturday`s 1-0 defeat at home to Hull - their tenth during that poor period - proved to be the final straw for the board.

Assistant manager Martin Pert has also been relieved of his duties with first-team coach Steve Harrison and chief scout Andy Thorn placed in temporary charge of team affairs.

A club statement on Monday read: "We would like to place on record our thanks to Aidy and Martin for their efforts. We will not be holding a media conference today as the team is preparing for the match at Burnley tomorrow."

Boothroyd later released a statement through the League Managers Association in response to his departure.

"I am deeply disappointed to be leaving Coventry City and to be the ninth manager dismissed from the club in ten years,'' he said. "Last Christmas I took the club to its highest league position for several years and, since then, we have had to endure a period of injuries and suspensions to seven key players, during which time we have played most of the top teams in the league.

"However, at the present time nearly all the players are back to full fitness and the squad, along with me and my coaching staff, was together, fully focused and working hard towards a strong finish to the end of the season. It is a shame that I have not been given the chance to take the club back up the league table where we were at the turn of the year.

"It has been a privilege to manage at a club with such a rich history and tradition. My family and I have become extremely fond of the club's staff, players and of course fans and I sincerely thank them for their support and dedication, and I wish them well for the future.''
