Boateng: Spurs face summer Bale fight

Former Tottenham midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has warned Spurs they will have a fight on their hands to keep hold of Gareth Bale at the end of the season.

Wales international Bale is on the comeback from a back injury, but came on as a second-half substitute in Spurs' 0-0 draw with AC Milan, which knocked the Italian giants out of the competition.

The Ghana international spent two seasons at White Hart Lane, where he played alongside Bale. Boateng admits Bale has made rapid progress since he left in August 2009 and he expects there to be a bidding war for the midfielder.

"Gareth was the player all the Milan players have been talking about, because of his pace and left foot," Boateng said. "When I played here there were talents like Gareth and Aaron Lennon, but they have improved a lot.

"I think the whole of Europe is after Gareth, because he is a great player. The way he played against Inter was impressive and everyone said: 'Who is this player? We need to get him.'

"I think it will be difficult for Tottenham to keep him but he is feeling good here in London, so we will see in the summer what is going to happen. With his quality, his pace and his strength, he could do well in any league."

Boateng is on loan at Milan from Genoa until the end of the season, when Milan intend to make the deal permanent. However, Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has warned that he is prepared to fight to hang onto Boateng.

"We'll see in May," Preziosi said. "[Adriano] Galliani knows that I don't make gifts and he doesn't either. It will be a great fight.

"He will make me an offer and I will see if it's adequate. But I believe that we have already outlined some things with Galliani so we shouldn't argue."
