Ade wants to make the cut in Madrid

Emmanuel Adebayor says he is doing everything in his power to ensure his loan spell at Real Madrid is made permanent.

Having impressed at Monaco early on in his career, Adebayor became a key figure at Arsenal but reportedly fell out with team-mates and fell out of favour with the fans after expressing a desire to move to AC Milan.

He was allowed to join Manchester City in 2009 but, after a bright start under Mark Hughes, he was given limited opportunities under Roberto Mancini and allowed to join Madrid on loan in January.

Asked whether he has noticed the support of the Madrid fans, he told AS: "I can tell. I hear my name chanted around the stadium. It's important to feel loved. I will do everything possible to stay here as long as possible."

He added: "I came here to do something. I have made something of myself in football and spent years playing at the highest level, but I'm still empty-handed.

"For me, the most important thing is to win trophies. When I joined Arsenal, I never imagined that I wouldn't win anything. Here I have to do everything I can to make it happen."

His efforts to succeed at Madrid have extended to having his hair cut.

"I had dreadlocks for three years but, when the opportunity to play for Madrid arose, I knew I'd have them cut off," he said. "This haircut is more appropriate for an institution like Madrid. I'm doing everything possible to integrate."

While he is enjoying his time at the Bernabeu, Adebayor revealed he would have liked to have remained at Arsenal for the rest of his career.

Speaking about his move from Monaco to Arsenal, he told AS: "It was another level there. Bergkamp, Henry and Van Persie were there - it made me improve as a footballer. I became a key figure in attack and it shows that I was a success.

"[Arsene Wenger taught me] to arrive on time at training, to be professional, how to mentally recover, to act professionally with the other players in the dressing room."

Asked if he was angry about his departure, he replied: "To be honest, yes. I left frustrated. I loved the club. When I was young, one of my dreams was to play for Arsenal because my idol, Kanu, played there. I thought I would stay there for the rest of my career.

"[Manchester City] was a difficult experience. Mancini has a way of approaching the game. It's life - you have to accept it. I don't feel any resentment."
