AS Roma have officially terminated Brazilian striker Adriano's contract, two years before it was due to expire.
Adriano has struggled with weight and fitness concerns over the past few years, while his off-field antics have also raised eyebrows and he has been criticised for his party lifestyle.
The 29-year-old arrived at Roma from Flamengo in the summer of 2010 after a host of personal problems nearly saw him quit the game completely, but failed to perform at the same level as he had done for Inter Milan - where he won four successive Serie A titles.
After returning from a sojourn in Brazil to recover from a shoulder injury, the striker failed to turn up for training with Roma and the club took the decision to cut short his time in Italy.
A statement released on the club's official website read: "AS Roma S.P.A and the player Adriano Ribeiro Leite would like to inform that they have agreed to rescind the contract which was due to expire on 30 June, 2013, by mutual agreement."
