Kelly set for month out

Liverpool defender Martin Kelly assured Reds fans that he is a "quick healer" after it was revealed that he will miss the next month of the season with a hamstring injury.

Dalglish cool on contract talk

Kelly has been one of the few stand-out performers for Liverpool in what has been a disastrous season, providing defensive stability as well as a raiding threat down the right flank.

However, one of those forays down the wing saw Kelly pull up injured during the 3-1 defeat to West Ham, and Liverpool have confirmed he is likely to be out until March.

A club statement read: "Martin Kelly will be out of action for a month after sustaining a hamstring tear during Sunday's clash with West Ham United.

"Liverpool FC Head of Sports Medicine and Sports Science Dr Peter Brukner has confirmed the defender is facing four weeks on the sidelines after assessing the injury at Melwood."

Kelly added in the Liverpool Echo: "I took Scott Parker on down the right and when I took my last touch I felt a pull in my hamstring and there was no way I could carry on. I'm usually a quick healer and we have good medical staff at the club so hopefully I will be back soon."

The injury means Kelly will miss Liverpool's home clash with Manchester United, as well as both legs of their Europa League last-16 tie with Portuguese side Braga. Fortunately for Liverpool, they only have two league games in March, with Sunderland the other fixture Kelly will certainly miss.

First team coach Steve Clarke said: "It's disappointing for the player because he's been on a good run doing well for us. It's a blow for us but we can handle it and we'll move on."

Dalglish will now hope for better news on fellow injury doubts Daniel Agger, Raul Meireles and Fabio Aurelio. There is also a hope that record signing Andy Carroll will be ready to take his place on the bench against United.
