Jose: Points more valuable than records

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho insists his nine-year unbeaten home league record means "nothing" to him, stressing that securing silverware more important than continuing the impressive run.

• Real may re-sign ex-players

Mourinho's side were held to a 0-0 stalemate at Deportivo on Saturday, a result that saw them fall seven points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Real host Malaga on Thursday and ahead of the game the Portuguese boss was once again questioned about the fact that he has not lost a home league game since Porto were beaten by Beira Mar on February 23, 2002.

But Mourinho said he has no interest in his personal home record, insisting that the only thing that matters to him is winning trophies.

"Records like this mean nothing to me, it's points I'm really interested in," Mourinho said. "Over the years I've done nothing to protect this record. On numerous occasions I have been in situations when my teams have been drawing games and I have had to take risks in those matches."

"It has never crossed my mind to tactically protect that record. I have taken risks to win games because three points are far better than one. It's points that win prizes not home records. It's better to win five games and lose one than draw six games. You work the maths out."
